General Activity Tracking

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to track general activity on our platform. General activity tracking is achieved via in-built GA functionality without any unique customisation.

Page Views and Engagement Time

New platform pages will have ‘v2’ in the URL.

  • Navigate to Reports > Engagement > Pages and Screens

  • Change dropdown to Path page and screen class

  • Search for desired page

Demographic (e.g. language, location, age, etc)

E.g. language, location, age, gender, etc.

  • Navigate to User > Demographics > Demographic Details

  • Change dropdown to desired demographic variable

Technology

E.g. browser, device, screen resolution, etc.

  • Navigate to User > Tech > Tech Details

  • Change dropdown to desired tech variable

Custom Event Tracking

We use a combination of Google Tag Manager (GTM) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to track specific events on our platform.

Internal IP Exclusion

In 2021 the company enforced use of a VPN whereby each connected device would fall within a certain IP range. This IP range was then used to create a ‘view’ in GA to exclude internal users from analytic collection.

However as of 2022, Convertr transitioned to a managed IT service which has no need for a VPN, therefore all company devices have unique IP addresses and cannot be easily excluded. This means that any data will include the usage of any internal users.

Aggregation of URLs

Prior to transitioning to GA4, we utilised GA3 which supported a ‘Search and Replace’ feature whereby a custom regex filter could be added:

Before applying this filter, URLs would output as individual items because each ID in the URL is unique, e.g.

Applying the ‘Search and replace’ filter removed number ID’s from analytic results and therefore allow aggregation of similar URLs, e.g.

Google Universal Analytics will be deprecated in July 2023. Therefore the transition to Google Analytics 4 is required. However, GA4 currently does not support URL ‘search and replace’. Therefore ID’s in URLs cannot be aggregated at this moment in time.

Last checked for feature support in 02/23.
